“About Us”

MEET NICCI, Founder and owner of Sweatbox Sauna.

I am first and foremost mum to Max my beautiful teenage son whom I was blessed with in my late 30s after a living a rather lively and active life prior to his birth, having spent my time in The Royal Artillery, firing surface to air missiles along with an operational tour to Iraq in 2004.

Having a child later in life forced me to slow down and reevaluate what was a rather hectic and indulgent couple of decades, the army way was always very much work hard, play hard! That does take its toll!

When Max was 9 years old I was diagnosed with a life threatening health condition and with that brings a deep sense of looking inward and reviewing life. I focused on my over health and wellbeing both physically and mentally, with gratitude and mindset being the two major influences on my road to recovery, I am now 7 years recovered, I have a few battle scars and am focused on a holistic healing path, constantly searching the for the best way to improve and maintain my health.

Some key factors that I now try to focus on is less is more, as well as trying to revert to the simple things in lift, and how best to support my nervous system. We live in a very disconnected modern society, where convenience is prioritised, generally at a cost. Many of us are so busy juggling the modern day life and pressures our nervous systems have become so dis-regulated, and many of us are operating in fight or flight mode, known to be extremely damaging to our health and longevity.

My initial response to recovery from ill health was to ensure memories were made with my son, we purchased a campervan and began travelling not only the UK but also Europe, this enabled me to give Max the luxury of great life experience and memories.

Then Bizarrely, I decided it would be great to build a Sauna, which not only could be beneficial to myself but also the local community. Since 2020 and the somewhat extreme global response, there has been an increase of people looking to take responsibility for their own health in a more preventative, metabolic and holistic approach.

We are all becoming more aware of the increasing negative affects of Epigenetics, which are drastically influencing our health. Certain factors such as processed and industrialised foods, sedentary lifestyles, stressful working life, more time spent indoors under artificial LED light, less social interaction! The traditional night down the pub is now not so traditional, with 1000s of pubs having since closed since the pandemic, many people are looking for new outlets to socialise and connect with others, whilst also focusing on improving health and finding ways to relax and destress, or even re-energise.

Sauna provides so many benefits which help to negate all these modern day challenges and health conditions, according to the British Sauna Society it is also becoming a new way of social connection.

A traditional Finnish Style Wood-burning Sauna offers; Deeper more traditional heat with a more natural experience which is authentic whilst providing great benefits. This relates to my own personal journey and one I want to share with others.

There is a new wave of Sauna Culture spreading throughout the UK and beyond. Saunas are being built in unique settings providing tech-free spaces in which to share stores and enjoy nature. The tradition has a rich history, filled with rituals that encourage us to soak up the mental and physical health benefits of deep heat.
